Heartless was a short film made in Manchester for a very very small amount of money. I couldn't afford to even make flats for the set; we used the panelling from garden fences and attached those directly onto a built frame, even the flooring was on loan from a reclamation yard.
The story was of three people sharing one heart in a cabin, on a snowy mountainside in 1940’s Germany. The cabin was a shelter for walkers to gain shelter from storms and needed to be sparsely furnished. The whole film took place in the cabin, the director asked for a very simple bed, a chair, a fire or stove and a bizarre fungal type growth on one wall which the female character would sit under in one scene.
I researched cabins, 1920’s -
On this project I gained more skills in dirtying down and ageing walls and furniture as the cabin set needed layers of age and decay. I sourced and made props and got more experience in creating graphics.
